Post-Publication Discussions, Corrections and Retraction:
Maximum scientific potentials receive an opportunity to read the published content and discuss on it owing to the open-access policy. After publication, if errors are found in the articles, the journal will communicate to the concerned editor/editors, author/authors, and organization of authors. Corrigendum can be used to correct errors by authors and erratum by publishers. Moreover, retraction or concern expression will be recommended if errors affect the conclusion or in case of any misconduct. International Journal of Microbial Science uses guidelines by the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). The articles that are published will be retracted if unreliable data is detected, which can be a consequence of either misconduct that occurred scientifically or an honest error. To maintain a scientific record, the article will not be withdrawn from the website but notice regarding the issue will be published for the reference of global readers. Authors, publishers or editors can publish the retraction. However, in case of legal infringement, the publisher has the right to remove the article with exception of the bibliography to maintain scientific integrity. We use COPE guidelines regarding it. We also publish erratum/corrigendum in conjunction with the published article whenever required to support scientific integrity. These corrections are freely made available to the readers. The journal publishes clarifications, apologies, and corrections wherever needed.
Content Relevance: The journal assures that the published data is consistent with both the title and its scope. The study should be relevant to the journal’s mission or readers of it. It should address vital either problems or issues. Moreover, it should be helpful to add the literature which is already available on the concerned subject.
Ethical approvals/oversight, patient rights and informed consent:
Patient Rights:
- Since patients have the authority to maintain privacy, the proposed study should be undertaken with their consent. Publication of their identities is not recommended in the forms, for example, photographs, descriptions, and pedigrees if it is not needed for scientific purposes and the patients agree through written consent. The informed consent must be reported in the article. However, the patient’s consent letter should not be included in the article. Authors should only report this in the article in the form of a statement since the direct publication of a letter in the article uncovers the patient’s identity.
- There is a requirement for ethical standards when the research object is a human being (Helsinki Declaration of 1964, revised in 2000). The experiments on humans must be permitted by authorized committees or any other equivalent bodies.
Rights of animals:
Researchers must handle animals in the laboratory with ethical standards. There is a need for permission to work on animals for research from the related Ethical Committee (Principles of Laboratory Animal Care NIH publication no. 85-23, revised 1985).
Clinical Trial Registration:
There is a need to register clinical trials in the database which is available to the public. Authors should report the clinical trial registration number in the article wherever necessary. Authors are required to follow the minimum instructions in order to report randomized trials (The CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) 2010 guideline).
Plagiarism and similarity index policy:
Authors should take care that their draft of a manuscript must be original and there should be the author’s own tone of writing. If the authors used work by others, it should be properly cited and referenced. All articles submitted to the journal are screened through Turnitin (online similarity index detection software). We take appropriate action against the authors whose work reported unacceptable similarity index and plagiarism, which includes:
- Restricting the authors from future publications.
- Informing their funding agencies, organizations, and to original authors whose works have been plagiarized.
We follow the flow charts by COPE for dealing with the complaints regarding plagiarism available at Suspected plagiarism in a submitted manuscript, Suspected plagiarism in a published manuscript.
Presence of ethics, authorship and contributorship:
For reviewers:
The scientifically motivated work of peer reviewers is valuable in order to maintain not only standard publications but also the integrity of science. The peer reviewers are recommended to follow COPE guidelines as well as the peer-review policy of the journal. In addition, the reviewers are advised to understand the conflict of interest statement provided by the journal and ensure compliance with it. Further, it is expected from the reviewers to support both objectives along with the confidentiality of a double-blind peer review.
For authors:
All contributors should contribute to the article through all possible means. The authorship criteria should be based on the following parameters (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors [ICMJE]):
1. Considerable contribution to not only the concept, design, acquisition, and analysis of work but also the interpretation of the data.
2. Both drafting as well as revising the work for valuable intellectual content.
3. Agreement for reality and integrity of the data to be published.
The authors should ensure compliance with the policies of the journal such as conflict of interest, plagiarism, ethical approvals, patient’s rights and informed consent and correction and retraction policy. Authors should provide enough data and proper citations and references should be entertained to support the reproducibility of the research work. Inaccurate data will be considered unethical and not acceptable. Authors may be asked to provide supplementary data by the review board for high-profile and standard review. Authors should provide public access to their data and retain it for a prolonged duration after publication.
Redundant or duplicate submission/publication:
One manuscript should not be submitted at a time to many journals. The readers should get assurance that they are reading original data, which is a requirement of ethical aspects, international copyrights and cost-effective application of resources (Read ICMJE recommendations). If an editor is not aware of the multiple submissions and if the article got published in multiple journals due to multiple submissions, a notice regarding this will be published.
Acknowledgement and funding sources:
Authors are requested to provide precise acknowledgement in their articles related to those who supported their work. In addition, they should provide the funding resources in their articles along with the name of the funding agency, the grant number and a description of the role of the funder, if necessary. Authors should take care that funding organizations of the work that is going to be published should be reported in the article.
Publisher:
The publisher should guarantee the protection of not only intellectual property but also the copyrights of the authors. The personal data and privacy of both authors and peer reviewers are protected. We support peer reviewers and editors to boost editorial independence as well as integrity along with the transparency of the peer-review process. We follow guidelines provided by ICMJE for journal owners and editorial freedom
Ethical issues regarding publication:
Monitoring: The complaints regarding violation of ethical issues should be considered by the publishers and appropriate actions should be taken to resolve them. Authors/readers can submit their complaints at https://internationaljournalofmicrobialscience.com/index.php/contact-us/
Article withdrawal:
We recommend corresponding authors to solve issues in the manuscript in relation to authorship, ethics of publication, accuracy as well as results when the submission process has been initiated. Prior to publication, authors can withdraw their articles at any time by sending us the withdrawal request at rajeshdhakane001@gmail.com. The withdrawn manuscripts are not considered for further peer review and publication process.
Submissions from the Journal team:
The authors who are directly or indirectly involved in the journal’s team will not be appointed for peer review of the manuscript submitted by them. Such manuscript will be removed by other Editorial Board Members.
Avoiding compromising with both ethical and intellectual guidelines:
The funding agencies as well as sponsors should not interfere with the results produced by authors. The Editorial Board of the journal is bound to maintain the integrity of the scientific records, and avoid business strategies from interfering with not only ethical but also intellectual standards. The team is interested to publish apologies, clarifications, and retractions along with corrections whenever necessary.
Misconduct and sanctions:
The possible violations of ethical standards by the journal should be reported at https://internationaljournalofmicrobialscience.com/index.php/contact-us/ The name of the reporter will not be exposed. Immediately, after receipt of the complaint, our editors will look into the matter seriously and investigate it thoroughly. In such a case, the concerned authors may be requested to provide related data, supplementary information and images. The appeared concerns will be resolved. We reject the article if we found concerns such as duplicate submissions, plagiarism, fraud data, manipulation in the citations and wrong claims of authorship. If the same is found after publication, the article will be retracted as per the retraction guidelines of COPE (COPE Retraction Guidelines). We follow the flow chart provided by COPE at https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Flowcharts in order to handle the misconduct.
If the misconduct is very severe affecting scientific standards, we may not allow submissions for a minimum of 1 year, not allow working as a reviewer or an editor and report the misconduct to the organization of authors and their funding agencies. Nevertheless, the minor and unintentional mistakes will be resolved with corrigendum by authors and erratum by publishers.
Complains and appeals:
Authors and readers are promoted to report the complaints at https://internationaljournalofmicrobialscience.com/index.php/contact-us/ or by writing us at rajeshdhakane001@gmail.com. All complaints will be carefully resolved and the names of complaints reported will not be exposed. If the authors/readers didn’t get a solution to their complaints, they are requested to contact us at rajeshdhakane001@gmail.com
Data sharing and reproducibility:
Anyone can copy as well as redistribute, reproduce the content in any suitable either medium or format and transform, remix and build up the published data under the terms which are as follows:
1. Attribution: The user must provide appropriate credit to the original author.
Non-Commercial: Users are not allowed to use the published content for commercial applications.
2. Share Alike: If the user remixes, transforms and builds upon the content, he/she is advised to distribute his/her contributions under the same license as the original.
3.No additional restrictions: User should not apply the legal terms or technological measures which legally prohibit others from doing anything the license permits.
Intellectual property rights:
It is recommended to maintain a balance between open access and intellectual property rights based on the type of information involved. In the case where this information is a trade secret or displaying this content leads to a conflict of interest or violates the publication ethics, intellectual property rights are required to be practised. The policy of an open-access should be used in such a way that it does not violate the right of the original author to claim the originality of his work.
Process for identification of and dealing with allegations of research misconduct:
Both publishers and editorial board members take appropriate actions to the identification of the occurred misconduct in the paper and its publication. Examples of misconduct are plagiarism, manipulation in citations, data falsification and fabrication and other equivalents. The journal and editors do not support misconduct to occur and do not allow the occurrence of such incidents knowingly. If the journal and editorial board come across misconduct, the COPE guidelines are followed.
