Typhoid is the disease that makes intestinal complications [1]. Typhoid fever is a serious bacterial infection that requires accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment to prevent complications. The Salmonella typhae, <\/em>responsible for the disease [2], become resistant to chloramphenicol [3]. In this case report, the importance of combination of probiotics, soft diet and medicines in the treatment of typhoid fever with intestinal complications is highlighted.\u00a0 <\/span>On 16 February 2023, a 20 years old female showed symptoms such as high grade fever (400<\/sup>C),\u00a0 abdominal pain, intestinal complications and diarrhea, headache, weakness, and loss of appetite. Over the next few days, she experienced abdominal discomfort, constipation, and a dry cough. Due to the persistence of symptoms, she sought medical attention. On 20 February 2023, she\u00a0 was admitted to Sanjivani Hospital, Vidyanagari, Baramati, Maharashtra, India. She had no history of travelling in the contaminated areas or consumption of unsafe food or water. <\/span>Upon physical examination, she was febrile with abdominal tenderness. A Widal test was performed [4], which showed positive result. In this sequence, the doctor confirmed the typhoid disease caused by Salmonella typhi<\/em>. <\/span>She was started on intravenous (IV) fluids [5] for hydration (figure1). In addition, lactated Ringer solution was administered to reduce the pain [6] \u00a0and ceftriaxone [7] for seven days. Antipyretics, paracetamol 650 mg [8] were given as needed. However, she did not recover and decided to try alternate treatment on December 8, 2024. <\/span>At home, she opted the Ayurvedic treatment. She consumed a Zingiber officinale<\/em> based syrup prepared by boiling dried Zingiber officinale<\/em> in warm water for 2\u20133 days. As a result, she fully recovered on 2 March 2023. This case highlights the challenges in treatment of typhoid fever due to bacterial resistance to the medical treatment and positive role of in the treatment of typhoid.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
